Standard diesel transfer pumps use vane pump technology optimised for thin, low-viscosity fluids. Trying to pump engine oil or gear oil through a diesel vane pump results in slow flow, excessive strain on the motor, overheating and premature failure. Important: Oil Pump Care
- Always use a suction strainer or filter when the cleanliness of the oil cannot be guaranteed. Gear pumps have tight internal tolerances, and particles or debris can jam between the gears and damage the pump.
- Do not use oil pumps for water, AdBlue, solvents or fuels. The pump seals and materials are selected for oil compatibility.
- For very cold conditions, oil viscosity increases significantly. Allow the oil to reach a workable temperature before pumping, or select a pump rated for the viscosity at your operating temperature.
- Flush the pump periodically if switching between different oil types.
